Non-Profit Organization Silver Spoons Launch Officially Announced

written by Justin

Silver Spoons is a newly launched not for profit, 501(c)3 registered organization in Honolulu, HI. It was founded by the Ihara Team and the Complete Solution (TM). With Julie Ihara, Dan Ihara and Steven Arakawa at the helm, it is expected that they will be able to make a real difference in supporting Kupuna in need, which is their mission. Full details about the organization can be obtained at http://www.silverspoons.org/.

“Come join us for an evening full of cocktails, dinner, and celebration as we raise funds to kick off the launch of Silver Spoons,” says Executive Director Steven Arakawa himself. “Silver Spoons is dedicated to serving Hawaii’s Kupuna in need. Helping them age well wherever they live, enhancing their lives physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. Proceeds raised at this event will be used to support Kupuna in need for 2018, thus making a difference in each life we touch.”

The event will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 5pm until 9pm HST. It will be hosted at Artistry Honolulu, located at 461 Cooke Street, Honolulu, HI 96813. Those interested in attending the event can book tickets through https://www.eventbrite.com/e/silver-spoons-launch-fundraiser-tickets-37767503620. The event is already proving to be very popular and while tickets remain available at all price points, they are selling out very rapidly.

Silver Spoons has been established by the Ihara Team Hawaii. They have been one of Hawaii’s top 100 real estate professionals for ten years running, according to the Hawaii Business Magazine. Their focus is particularly in helping senior citizens declutter their properties ready for sale, and in helping them find appropriate properties for their old age. Essentially, they want to ensure that everyone can age in comfort, safety, and dignity, enjoying the fruits of their labors.

Dan Ihara, co-owner and founder of the Ihara Team, with website at https://www.iharateamhawaii.com/, explains: “It’s the high level of service we provide that helps us stand out. We aim to honor God with the highest level of competency, care and compassion with uncompromising integrity. By starting Silver Spoons, we ensure that we can do so on a charitable basis as well.”

written by Justin

Human Rights Watch consistently conducts some of the best investigative reporting and editorial work that profiles human rights issues around the globe. Hundreds of people at their non-profit are not only involved with producing content and shining a light on injustice, but also defending human rights.

Each year they publish a World Report that covers the past year’s events and summarizes the conditions of human rights. The report contains a few in-depth essays, and then provides information on a number of topics in several different countries. This year, the 659-page report contained 4 essays and covered several issues across 90 countries and territories.

Below are the United States topics (which start on page 609):

  • Harsh Sentencing

Charitable Giving in Late December

written by Justin

Every year there’s a surge of charitable giving that happens post-Christmas, which is (at least in some portion) attributed to transactions needing to go through before the close of the year so that contributions are tax-deductible in the current calendar year.

According to a the 2014 Digital Giving Index produced by Network for Good, 12% of all charitable donations happened in the last 3 days of the year. So as we enter the final 2 days of the year, Moodley Foundation wanted to offer some advice to those interested in making charitable donations who could benefit from an income tax break.
The largest benefits from reducing your taxable income happen when you cross over certain “brackets” based on your filing status and exemptions. These details normally are published by the end of Q3, and you can find where you fall here: www.irs.com/articles/2015-federal-tax-rates…

If it turns out that supporting a charitable organization can also benefit you personally through financial gain, then seek out a charity that speaks to the benefit or change that you’d like to see in the world. There are many websites where you can search for charitable organizations based on the cause the serve and area of operations. These websites include: charitynavigator.org, charities.org, and crowdrise.com.

Then, verify that the organization that you want to support is eligible to have their contributions tax-deductible. You’re able to view all exempt organizations from the United States here in the IRS website: apps.irs.gov/app/eos

Finally, keep a record of your donation (the amount, the organization, and the date). Many charities will now process payments online and automatically send you a receipt. If you don’t receive anything, make sure to follow up with a call or email as soon as possible to assure the payment has gone through and that you’ll be receiving a receipt for your records.

We’d also like you to consider making charitable contributions part of your monthly routine. If you don’t expect your income levels to significantly change moving into next year, you’re able to spread out donations across each month through reoccurring contributions – an option for many exempt non-profits.

TED Talk – Dan Pallotta: The way we think about charity is dead wrong

written by Justin

Many publications that compare charities will rank  organizations by efficiency, which in large part is attributed to the way in which revenues are allocated through their organization. This unfortunately means that when money is reinvested in execution and distribution which drives additional money for social programs, that it could create a negative stigma for an organization that is doing a lot of good.

Dan Pallotta takes this issue head-on during a TED Talk where he pulls from personal experiences. Watch the video below.

If you’re interested in watching more videos from the TED series you can view their YouTube channel, and for more info/media from Dan Pallota, visit his website: www.danpallotta.com
