The 2016 World Report from Human Rights Watch

written by Justin

Human Rights Watch consistently conducts some of the best investigative reporting and editorial work that profiles human rights issues around the globe. Hundreds of people at their non-profit are not only involved with producing content and shining a light on injustice, but also defending human rights.

Each year they publish a World Report that covers the past year’s events and summarizes the conditions of human rights. The report contains a few in-depth essays, and then provides information on a number of topics in several different countries. This year, the 659-page report contained 4 essays and covered several issues across 90 countries and territories.

Below are the United States topics (which start on page 609):

  • Harsh Sentencing
  • Racial Disparities in Criminal Justice
  • Drug Reform
  • Police Reform
  • Prison and Jail Conditions
  • Poverty and Criminal Justice
  • Youth in the Criminal Justice System
  • Rights of Non-Citizens
  • Labor Rights
  • Right to Health
  • Rights of People with Disabilities
  • Women’s and Girls’ Rights
  • Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
  • National Security
  • Foreign Policy
